Late 2022 broke me in ways I never expected. After 8 years of entrepreneurship, I found myself doing the unthinkable: applying for jobs.
Not just casually exploring options. I’m talking about dusting off and updating my resume for the first time in a decade. Filling out countless applications. Crafting cover letters explaining why I’d be a “great fit” for someone else’s company.
It was humbling. Painful. A direct challenge to my identity as an entrepreneur.
When Rejection Becomes Your Routine
One company put me through seven interviews.
Seven.
Seven separate occasions where I had to present myself, explain my value, and convince strangers I was worth taking a chance on. Only to receive the dreaded “we’ve decided to go with another candidate” email.
Another CEO took the time to wish me happy birthday on February 17, 2023. The message gave me hope—perhaps a personal connection had been established. Later that same day, they informed me they were “going a different direction.”
Talk about birthday presents.
The Real Test of Faith
Rock bottom has a way of testing everything you believe:
- Your faith in your abilities
- Your resolve to continue
- Your belief that things will eventually improve
When you’re faced with rejection after rejection, it’s easy to internalize the “no” as a reflection of your worth. The narrative becomes: “I’m not good enough” rather than “This wasn’t the right fit.”
But here’s what I’ve learned: those moments of desolation are crucibles—they either break you completely or forge you into something stronger.
The 42-Day Miracle
Something incredible happened just 42 days after that birthday rejection message:
I launched Magai. 🚀
Not because I was fully ready. Not because I had everything perfectly planned out. Not because the timing was ideal.
I launched because I refused to let someone else’s “no” be the final verdict on my capabilities.
The journey since then has been nothing short of extraordinary. We’ve built something bigger than I ever imagined possible in such a short time frame. The platform has helped thousands access the power of AI in ways that continue to amaze me daily.
Lessons From the Other Side
Looking back, I can see clearly what I couldn’t in those dark moments:
Closed doors aren’t dead ends.
They’re redirections to paths you couldn’t see before. Every company that rejected me unwittingly pushed me toward creating something that aligned more perfectly with my purpose.
Rejections aren’t final verdicts.
They’re assessments of fit, timing, or circumstance—not comprehensive judgments of your value. Someone saying “no” to you is often the universe making room for a bigger “yes.”
Your lowest moments aren’t your legacy.
They’re just chapters in a much longer story. How the story unfolds depends largely on your response to those difficult pages.
The Power of “Just Keep Moving”
The difference between those who eventually succeed and those who don’t often comes down to one simple choice: continuing to move forward when every instinct says to stop.
You don’t need dramatic leaps. Sometimes success is built on the humble foundation of:
- One day at a time
- One foot in front of the other
- One small action when you feel paralyzed
Even when it feels impossible. Even when nobody believes in you. Even when the evidence suggests you should give up.
Your Breakthrough Is Closer Than You Think
I couldn’t see it at the time, but my breakthrough was just 42 days away from my darkest moment. Yours might be even closer.
The question isn’t whether you’ll face rejection or hit rock bottom—most meaningful journeys include these chapters. The question is what you’ll do when you get there.
