Why I Refuse to Create an AI Version of Myself (Even as an AI Company Founder)

Everyone seems to be jumping on the AI avatar bandwagon these days. From CEOs to content creators, the trend of creating digital replicas to deliver messages is growing rapidly.

I’m not joining them.

And it’s not because the technology isn’t impressive. It absolutely is. The advancements in AI-generated avatars over just the past year alone have been nothing short of remarkable.

But there’s something deeply unsettling about watching an AI version of someone talk to you. That uncanny valley sensation. The subtle tells that scream “this isn’t real.” The unconscious feeling of betrayal when we realize we’re watching something synthesized rather than genuine.

The Technology Trap We Fall Into

As AI enthusiasts (myself included), we often miss this fundamental human reaction. We become so captivated by what’s possible—so fascinated by the technology and impressed by the advancement—that we overlook a simple truth:

People don’t actually like it.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Your audience doesn’t want a digital replica. They want you. Your authentic voice. Your real expressions. Your genuine humanity—flaws and all.

There’s already enough fake content online. Enough filters. Enough manipulation. The last thing we need is more synthetic representations of ourselves, no matter how technically impressive they might be.

Trust Is Our Most Valuable Currency

As business leaders and creators, our most valuable asset isn’t our technical capabilities or even our knowledge—it’s the trust our audience places in us.

And nothing erodes trust faster than outsourcing your face and voice to an algorithm.

When someone discovers they’ve been watching or listening to an AI version of you rather than the real thing, it creates a moment of realization that can’t be undone. That moment says, “I wasn’t worth their actual time,” or worse, “They’ve been deceiving me.”

Is that really the relationship you want to build with your audience?

Technology Should Amplify, Not Replace

Don’t get me wrong—I believe in AI’s transformative power. At Magai, we’re building tools that help people leverage artificial intelligence in remarkable ways.

But there’s a crucial distinction that guides our philosophy:

Technology should amplify humanity. Not replace it.

Great technology should make us more human, not less. It should give us back time to connect more deeply, create more meaningfully, and communicate more authentically.

Where I Draw the Line

So yes, I’ll use AI for many things:

  • To help research topics more efficiently
  • To assist with content organization and structure
  • To analyze data and surface insights
  • To handle routine communications

But my videos will always be just me. My podcasts will always feature my actual voice. My webinars will always be delivered by the real Dustin W. Stout.

Because some things are simply too human to delegate.

The Authenticity Advantage

There’s a competitive advantage to remaining authentic in a world racing toward digital replication. While others are creating AI versions of themselves, you have an opportunity to double down on genuine human connection.

Your imperfections, your occasional stumbles over words, your authentic reactions—these are features, not bugs. They signal to your audience that they’re connecting with a real person.

In a world increasingly populated by digital replicas, authentic humanity becomes increasingly valuable.

What will you choose? The convenience of delegation or the power of authentic connection?

I’ve made my choice. What’s yours?

Zero noise. Just signal.

Emails only when there’s something valuable or important to share. That’s it.

Over 100,000 people have joined. Why not you?
